The Mont Blanc tunnel is the main part of the trip
From Malpensa to Courmayeur on the A5 motorway takes about two and a half hours, then comes the Mont Blanc tunnel: 11.6 kilometres under the mountain and straight out on the French side. It is a toll tunnel, and the toll is included in our transfer. There is a speed limit and a set distance between cars inside, so on Saturdays in season there can be a queue at the entrance — the driver allows for it.
If you fly into Geneva, it is closer from there
To be honest: from Geneva airport to Chamonix is just over an hour, and many people fly there. Milan makes sense when the ticket is cheaper, when you are combining the trip with Italy or skiing on both sides of Mont Blanc: Courmayeur and Chamonix are twenty minutes apart through the same tunnel.
Aiguille du Midi, Grands Montets and the Vallée Blanche
Chamonix has several separate ski areas: the Grands Montets with steep slopes, Brévent and Flégère facing Mont Blanc, and family-friendly Le Tour and Les Houches. The Vallée Blanche starts from the Aiguille du Midi — twenty kilometres of off-piste descent across the glacier, with a guide only. The first Winter Olympics were held here in 1924. The transfer is ≈ €490 per car; for four people that is €122.50 each.
If you are flying into Geneva, you do not need a transfer from Milan — it is closer from there. From Malpensa the car beats trains and buses by almost half the time, especially with skis and children.
