Cortina d’Ampezzo
Cortina has no station of its own — the railway does not reach it. The nearest station is Calalzo di Cadore, about an hour from town by bus. Direct Cortina Express and ATVO coaches run from Venice and Treviso airports and from Mestre station, taking two to three hours depending on the number of stops. Val Gardena
By train to Bolzano on the Verona — Brennero line, then a local bus up the valley to Ortisei, Santa Cristina and Selva: about another hour. Alta Badia
The nearest station is Brunico in the Pusteria valley, then about 50 minutes by bus up the hairpins to Corvara and La Villa. The alternative is via Bolzano, but the road is longer. In winter the buses run to the lift timetable rather than to flights, so a night arrival may leave you without a connection. Val di Fassa
There is no railway in the valley. People take the train to Trento or Bolzano, then a Trentino Trasporti bus to Moena, Vigo and Campitello — one and a half to two hours. Kronplatz
One of the few Dolomite resorts the railway actually reaches: the Fortezza — San Candido line, stations Brunico and Perca. Perca is closest to the bottom lift station; from Brunico a local bus runs. Marmolada · Arabba
Neither a station nor a direct coach from the airports. People come via Belluno or Bolzano with a change onto a local service, and in winter that takes half a day. One of those cases where a car wins on time rather than on money. Madonna di Campiglio
By train to Trento, then a Trentino Trasporti bus up the Rendena valley — about two hours. In season there are occasional direct coaches from Milan and Verona, but they run once a day and not to every flight. Livigno
By train to Tirano — the last stop on the line from Milan, about two and a half hours. From Tirano a bus crosses the pass to Livigno, roughly another two hours. In winter the Foscagno pass is occasionally closed and the buses are cancelled. Livigno is a duty-free zone, so there is sometimes a customs check on the way in. Bormio
Also via Tirano, but closer: about 50 minutes by bus from the station, with services timed to the trains. Of all the Lombardy resorts Bormio is the easiest to reach by public transport. Ponte di Legno · Tonale
By train to Edolo on the branch from Brescia, then a bus to Ponte di Legno and the Tonale pass — about an hour. The branch line is narrow and slow, so from Milan the train takes around four hours. Cervinia
By train to Châtillon-Saint-Vincent in the Aosta valley, then a SAVDA bus that climbs to Cervinia in about an hour. Outside the winter season the services are noticeably thinner. Courmayeur
The nearest station is Pré-Saint-Didier, five kilometres away, but few trains stop there; most people take the train to Aosta and continue by bus. Direct coaches run from Milan and Turin, roughly three hours. Courmayeur sits at the mouth of the Mont Blanc tunnel, so people also arrive from Geneva and Chamonix.
