Train to Tirano, bus to Bormio
Malpensa Express reaches Milano Centrale in about 50 minutes. From there Trenord runs to Tirano in 2 hours 30 minutes, with around fifteen departures a day. At Tirano the Perego bus takes you to Bormio in about an hour for €4–6, and its departure is timed to meet the train. Door to door that is roughly 4.5 hours — rare for the mountains, where it is usually worse.
What is in Bormio
The Stelvio is the Olympic downhill course, with a vertical drop of almost 1800 metres, and one of the Milano Cortina 2026 venues. The town itself has three thermal complexes fed by hot springs: useful when your legs are done and your flight is still a day away. The road to Livigno over the Foscagno pass also starts here, with buses roughly every three hours.
