Getting there

How to get from Malpensa to Livigno

Checked: 5 September 2026 · prices and timetables from official operator data
By public transport it is a long day: Malpensa Express to Milan, a Trenord train to Tirano (2 hours 30 minutes), then the Perego bus through Bormio and the Foscagno pass. That is 6–8 hours and three changes, with sparse winter services. A private transfer is ≈ €420 — 3 hours 30 minutes direct, with skis and at any hour.

The train and bus route

Malpensa Express reaches Milano Centrale in about 50 minutes. From there Trenord runs to Tirano in 2 hours 30 minutes, with around fifteen departures a day, the first at 06:20 and the last at 21:20. At Tirano you change to the Perego bus, which runs through Bormio to Livigno; between Livigno and Bormio buses go roughly every three hours. Count on 6–8 hours door to door and three changes with skis.

The Forcola pass is closed in winter

This is the trap. In summer a direct bus links Tirano and Livigno over the Forcola pass (2315 m), and its timetable is easy to find online. During the ski season the pass is closed and that bus does not run. In winter Livigno has two ways in: the Foscagno pass (2291 m) from Bormio, and the Munt la Schera tunnel from Switzerland. A timetable found in summer will mislead you in winter.

The transfer

≈ €420 per car, 3 hours 30 minutes from the terminal to your hotel door. The driver tracks the flight and waits with a name sign, skis and boards travel free, and winter tyres and chains are in every car — on the climb to Foscagno they are not optional. For four people that is €105 each instead of eight hours of connections.

Livigno is reachable by public transport, but it is a full day with three changes. For four people, or on an evening flight, a car saves you not money but a day on the slopes.
