How to get from Malpensa to Courmayeur

There is no train to Courmayeur — and that matters

Timetables and older guidebooks still show Pré-Saint-Didier station, five kilometres from Courmayeur. You cannot use it: the Aosta–Pré-Saint-Didier line closed in late 2015 and has not reopened. The railway ends at Aosta, and from there the SAVDA bus takes about an hour to Pré-Saint-Didier and a few minutes more to Courmayeur.

The direct coach from Milan beats the train

This is the rare case where the coach outruns the railway: direct services from Milan and Turin take about three hours with no changes, while going via Aosta comes to about five. Courmayeur sits at the mouth of the Mont Blanc tunnel, so people also arrive from the Geneva and Chamonix side — if you fly into Switzerland, that is often shorter.

The transfer

≈ €360 per car, 2 hours 30 minutes from the terminal to your hotel door. The price is agreed before you fly, the driver tracks the flight and waits with a name sign, skis and boards travel free, and winter tyres and chains are in every car. For four people that is €90 each, and you are not tied to a single daily departure.

The direct coach from Milan is genuinely good here: €25–35 and three hours. The car wins on an evening arrival, with a group, and because it goes to your door rather than the bus station.
